To further strengthen our deep commitment to working in collaboration with indigenous peoples, local communities and respecting human rights, WWF International, is establishing a new Safeguards Division.
WWF International is currently recruiting for a number of key roles which will be responsible for embedding a robust Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF
) across our entire global Network of WWF offices.
The ESSF will represent an overarching policy on environmental and social risk management, providing for:
- Integrated environmental and social management to identify and manage the environmental and social impacts, risks, and opportunities of projects through the programme and project life cycle
- Effective stakeholder engagement through disclosure of project-related information and consultation with local communities on matters that directly affect them.
During this recruitment and development period, we are seeking an Environmental Safeguards expert to support our ongoing global commitment to environmental and social safeguards.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role will act as the custodian of the ESSF and maintain international best practice for the framework, including the management and updating of the screening tools as well as the initial development of a training and certification process.
The incumbent will also be responsible for driving relevant quality standards and assurance required for projects to meet safeguard standards across our WWF Network.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
- A Master’s degree in social sciences and management, law, environmental management, economics and policies, social development, sociology, social development, anthropology, indigenous people’s studies, or other relevant fields.
- Be able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of relevant international experience in environmental safeguard systems
- Excellent knowledge in the areas of indigenous people’s policy development and implementation; social safeguards; development of guidance, references and tools related to indigenous peoples and social safeguards; design and monitoring of climate change and development programs, projects and activities; and advocacy and capacity development;
