Responding to the Kenyan government's announcement of nine rhino deaths following a translocation effort to Tsavo East National Park and the launch of an independent assessment, Mohamed Awer, CEO, WWF-Kenya said:

“We are profoundly saddened to learn of the death of a ninth rhino following translocation to Tsavo East National Park by the Kenya Wildlife Service.

“Today’s announcement of an urgent independent assessment into the full circumstances surrounding the translocation operation is a critical next step. The death of these black rhinos is devastating and it is essential to establish what went wrong to prevent such losses in the future.”

“WWF has offered its support to KWS in the necessary assessment.”
