Communications volunteer with the Freshwater Practice- under recruitment

WWF has an opening through its Youth Volunteer Internship Programme for a communications volunteer/intern for a 6-month assignment with WWF Freshwater Practice based in the Philippines.
Location: WWF Philippines
Assignment dates: 1 June to 30 November 2018
Language required: good level of English (Filipino language is advantage)
Age Category: 19-27 years

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Project Manager-Water Focal Person Communications Intern will:
·         Participate in the regular meetings with the WWF-Philippines Water team to forecast activities and stories for the coming week; Take notes of meeting.
·        Participate in regular Water Practice calls;
·        Assist Philippines communications staff to develop and strengthen working relations with media;
·        Provide support for the maintenance of a lively WWF Philippines website, ensure regular updates, and assist with WWF’s social media presence: Twitter, Facebook, etc. particularly on water issues;
·        Develop compelling stories (press releases, feature stories) that maximize readership, targeting the most strategic media;
·        Presenting WWF’s work on water across the Philippines with a special focus on conservation successes;
·        Identifying important platforms and events, as well as conservation successes that can be used to build WWF’s profile etc.
·        Provide support for the WWF-Philippines hosted session in the 4th International River Summit
·        Provide support for the plans to bring the Journey of Water to the Philippines
·        Other activities as defined by the Communications Manager 
I.               Profile
 
Required Qualifications 
·        University level education in Communications or Journalism with  experience in a similar position in an international organization/company;
·        Proven experience and track records in writing for development/conservation; efficient use of social media in southern contexts; 
·        Familiarity with water and watershed management is preferred
 
Required Skills and Competencies
·       Excellent oral and written communications skills in English; oral and written skills in Filipino will be a plus
·       Interest and ability in video production and/or photography as well as in graphic design;
·       Computer literacy and knowledge of social media usage;
·       Keen interest and passion for conservation/environmental issues;
·       Cultural adaptability and sensitivity; and
·       Working knowledge of WWF Network, especially WWF-Philippines.
·       Creative, cutting edge and efficient use of social media.
 
II.              Working Relationships
Internal:  Interacts and works closely work closely with WWF-Philippine’s communications officers, Water Team and other conservation staff in the Philippines, under the supervision of WWF-Philippienes’ Water Focal point person. Liaises with colleagues across the WWF Network working in communications.
External: Interacts as required with journalists, media and some partners.
