Yangon, 24th August - WWF-Myanmar is closely working with Ministry of Natural Resources and Conservation (MONREC) to establish a first ever ranger training college in Myanmar as the State Counselor H. E. Aung San Suu Kyi has requested to.

Recently, WWF-Myanmar's Country Director, Dr Christy Williams, and Conservation Biologist, Paing Soe, took the Director General of Forest Department and the Director of Nature, Wildlife and Conservation Division, to the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) in South Africa from 13 to 20 of August to observe how they run a world class ranger college.

The two officials got a great opportunity to meet and discuss with the wildlife experts from SAWC on successful running a ranger training college. SAWC excitingly offered that they can do a feasibility study for establishing a ranger college in Myanmar and share their knowledge and expertise.

“SAWC impressed the two officials in multiple factors,” said Paing Soe, “They really appreciate WWF-Myanmar for organizing the trip and supporting them in establishing the first ever ranger college in Myanmar.”

The two officials back from South Africa with great excitement and reaffirm that the Ministry will keep cooperating with WWF in establishing the ranger college. SAWC is expected to visit Myanmar in September for doing a feasibility study and providing technical support.
