"It is our duty - the people of the village - to take care of our village, to improve it. Since the addition of solar panels, it is peaceful, healthy and bright" said Yollande, one of the solar mamas of Ambakivao, in the mangroves of western Madagascar.
Currently, there are more than 200 solar panels distributed throughout the village, that she installed with three other women: Kingeline, Remeza and Hanitra. Since the installation of these panels, they have already carried out 79 maintenance and repair work.
Rural electrification led by women in Madagascar is an initiative supported by WWF and partners, with the Malagasy and Indian governments.
