"My condolences to the WWF family. Loosing colleagues and friends in the line of duty is hard. As a fire fighter who lost two colleagues and friends last year I know how hard it can be. It can only be much harder for the families of those who have perished. We may take solace in the fact that their fate did not await them until after they got to celebrate the protection of an important piece of nature. It is upon all of us now to work hard to make sure that this piece of nature stays protected."

My heart goes out to all of the families, friends and colleagues of the WWF and Nepali victims. It is such a huge loss to so many people, in so many ways, it is sometimes hard to fathom. Their absence will be keenly felt for years to come. A special note of condolence to the family and friends of Mingma Sherpa. I've known Mingma for many years and always looked forward to running into him whether it be in Nepal, Bhutan or D.C. His efforts for Himalayan environmental conservation have been enormous and I hope his work will inspire others to get involved to make the world a better place.

I have never experienced death in my family yet, only pets, so I cannot and won't say I know how it feels. Although I will say that they died doing what they obviously loved. It may not be fair, but in the line of work they passed away helping the WWF, which I personally think is the best way to go...doing what you love. I am horrified to hear this news, and I am deeply sorry for your loss. They were good people, trying to save Earth, and it's not fair. I am truely sorry.
