I am truely sorry to hear of this unfortunate event. I am a 21 yr old student who wishes to enter a conservation organization some day soon, after graduating. And it is people like Chandra Gurung, Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Harka Gurung, Yeshi Lama, Jill Bowling Schlaepfer, Jennifer Headley and Matthew Preece that I highly look up too. They made things happen and never gave up. I hope someday to be as fearless as them. Please know that I am thinking of you and you are going to be truly missed.

Mountains have inspired men and women throughout the ages, perhaps because their challenge is so unpredictable. All of us, including the 24 men and women who so tragically lost their lives last week in eastern Nepal, know there are risks involved when we venture into the heights, but we also know that the professional and personal inspiration we seek in the mountains is worth the risk.

I hope that all people who love the mountains will join us in dedicating our future activities to the memory of these friends, colleagues and their families. We must ensure that the mountains of the world, especially those in eastern Nepal, continue to inspire future generations so that the sacrifice of our friends and colleagues will not have been in vain. We are so saddened by this tragic loss, especially that of our friend and former colleague, Mingma. 'He prayeth well, who loveth well, both man and bird and beast'. Farewell, Mingma. Rest in Peace.
