This magnificent heliconia can be found abundantly in the tropical rainforest of the Guianas. It is growing to 12' high. The bracts are light-to dark red with a yellow edge and a green top. The seeds are formed in these bracts and are shiny violet. The pollination is done by hummingbirds and bats. Heliconia is a group of frost-tender perennials grown for their attractive foliage and brilliant flower spikes. Also beautiful as a cutflower; it will last up to three weeks in water.
