Mission of the Department:
● To engage audiences across the globe to accelerate conservation impact and to build the WWF brand
● To ensure a coherent ‘One Brand, One Voice’ by integrating and supporting the communications functions across the network (Practices, Nos and POs)
● To facilitate and coordinate the development and alignment to a global brand and communications strategy
● To provide a Centre of Excellence to the Network and convene the Communications Community in terms of communications practice, coordination across Practices, techniques, platforms and digital media
● To provide common technology platforms Network-wide to enable communication with the audience.
- Deputise for the Head of Media Relations (HOMR) and support the Media Relations (MR) team to ensure the success of WWF’s global conservation goals and programs, by communicating the organisation’s work, profile and values to the global media, in line with network protocols
- Work closely with the HOMR and with the Practices, key programmes and relevant countries to support the development of media strategies that reflect and respond to risk, incorporate digital and stakeholder communications, and work towards our objectives using news and thought leadership content
- Provide support, advice, and media intelligence to the Network, and deputise for the HOMR as a central point of contact on media and public relations and on managing communications crises for the WWF Network
- Actively participate as part of the core team in key global fora with Network colleagues (CoP, CITES etc) and on our main pillars of work (LPR, EH, WEF etc)
- Provide advice and good counsel to the Media Relations team in line with agreed communications priorities
- Work with team members to manage the communications around issues and crises on a case-by-case basis with the team, the relevant country, donor organisations (internal), the relevant department and the wider community, working closely with the Digital team
- Provide support and advice to the network offices and the Practices to build capacity, manage risk, and ensure maximum message alignment in line with agreed communications priorities
- Provide input into communications strategies as required by the HOMR
- Monitor the international media agenda and provide advice as appropriate on media opportunities and emerging issues
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:
- Degree in communications, media, journalism or related subject
- Significant senior relevant professional experience, preferable in PR, broadcasting or digital sectors
- Proven success record in public relations, media relations, stakeholder management or a related field, as well as good knowledge in social media and digital influence arenas
- Experience of working in complex / international / highly matrixed operations
- Articulate, creative, passionate, flexible and tenacious
- Excellent written and spoken English – French, Spanish and/or other languages an advantage
- Attention to detail, diplomacy and discretion
- Ability to work as part of a team in a multicultural environment
- Flexible and comfortable working in a changing environment
- Prepared to undertake some international travel
- Proficiency and curiosity in new technologies, formats and new trends in journalism and public relations
- Global mind-set and love of meeting new people and working across countries and cultures
- Interest in conservation and environment issues
