The Walk to Raise Awareness on Climate Change
Climate Change is already affecting life as we know it and its effects have already been felt in different parts of the world. The Earth's atmosphere is warming faster than it probably ever has. In some cases, weather patterns, climates and natural environments are changing quicker than people can adapt.According to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), many of the world's biggest challenges from poverty to wildlife extinction, are made more difficult by climate change and things will get worse if we don't act now.
Geoffrey however, is one of the people who will not sit and do nothing. To help raise awareness on climate change and its effects in Uganda, he (with a cap) and his colleague have embarked on a 260 km climate change walk from Kampala to Kapchorwa which they intend to finish in 10 days.
The aim of the walk is to help motivate Ugandans to take up tree planting among other solutions to mitigate Climate Change and limit its impacts. Geoffrey will be making stopovers at different district headquarters from Mukono to Kapchorwa to plant trees. The Climate Change awareness walk is set to climax in Kapchorwa on 30th September 2017 with a mass tree planting event.
With support from World Wide Fund for Nature Uganda Country office (WWF-UCO), the Climate Change awareness walk was flagged off yesterday at the Ministry of Water and Environment headquarters in Kampala.
