Environmental Awareness in the Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar
Conservation Programme Manager Michelle Owen participated in an environmental awareness day in the Tanintharyi area (Dawei), a region of high biodiversity in Southeast Myanmar bordering Thailand. WWF-Myanmar’s initial field work will be focused in the Tanintharyi region. The awareness day highlighted the conservation activities of civil society groups, local and international NGOs. It was used to highlight and open discussion on the reclassification and use of land in Tanintharyi region that would allow for nature conservation and protected areas but also recognize traditional land titles. The mapping work currently underway supports the government’s land reform policy.
