First results of Snow Leopard survey
As a result of this activity, after 132 days of the camera placement there were taken 35623 photos of which 584 were only snow leopard’s, including from cubs to adults. Specialists of WWF Mongolia are developing the datas that were collected in the past.
Camera traps have proven to be a successful tool for study as they minimally disturb wildlife and can replace the use of more invasive survey and monitoring techniques. The camera traps shall be removed at the end of mating period e.g. end of March 2014. Snow leopards are unusual among large cats in that they have a well-defined birth peak. The data processing shall be taken place lateron and population number in the selected mountains of Khar-Us Lake National Park is expected to be known shortly after.
