Art and a table that saved lives

Stone & Style Company Limited organized a fundraising event ‘A Table That Saves Lives,’ to support WWF-Thailand   . A leading artist, Khun Sakwut Wisetmanee, volunteered to design the limited edition dining tables, which were then sold to support the campaign against the illegal ivory trade

On Friday the 29th November 2013, WWF-Thailand’s fight against the illegal wildlife trade and environmental degradation was given a boost by Stone & Style Company Limited and Silestone, leaders in Quartz stone solutions, through a classy fundraising event taking place in Emporium. Leading artist Khun Sakwut Wisetmanee designed 10 limited edition dining tables out of which 6 were immediately sold and 4 are still available – with all proceeds going to WWF-Thailand.

Guests of honor at the event included former Prime Minister Anand Panyarachun, model Kae Cholada Mekratri and actor Note Vatchabul Leesuwan.

Khun Kriangsak Jivanun, president of Stone and Style Limited, remarked that, “Stone & Style was inspired by WWF-Thailand’s campaign to stop the ivory trade and elephant poaching. Although the Stone & Style business is not associated with wildlife, I was impressed and wanted to promote the organisation’s efforts to conserve elephants, which are indicative of the abundance of Thai tropical forests. Instead of just donating, we thought about an innovative attention-grabbing way of supporting WWF’s project. With this totally new project “A Table that saves lives” we combine our proficient know-how with the creativity of Khun Sakwut Wisetmanee to reach out to Thailand’s elites to tell them about the threats of wildlife trade.”

With regards to the tables, the artist, Khun Sakwut Wisetmanee, designed the table shaped like an elephant head including the trunk, as a symbol for the project. “This is not only an eyecatcher for your living room, minimalist chic with the wood giving a warm feel to it. It is also a homage to these wonderful creature who need our support,” said Khun Sakwut

The event ended with a reminder to conserve the environment. “The fate of the environment begins and ends with all of us,” said former Prime Minister Anand Punyarachun. “Everyone wants to save the world, but most of us think that our actions are inconsequential. But the reality is that every independent action, no matter how small, can cause real change – for the better and for the worse.”
