WWF Tanzania equip Village Game Scouts
The equipment were handed over to the Wild Management Areas leaders of Kisungule, Kimbanda and Mbarang’andu in Namtumbo district as well as Chingoli and Nalika in Tunduru.
The equipment will support the work of the Village game scouts in these WMA.
Unlike the ranger a village game scout is not employed by the government, rather he is a volunteer who live near the Wildlife Management Areas. He receives informal training and is not allowed to carry or use guns in their jobs.
WWF Tanzania has been working within more than 13 Wildlife Management Areas where three are in Moyowosi and ten are along the Selous Ruvuma Landscape. WWF has been involved in capacitating VGS in terms of equipment as well as training where more than 150 VGS have been trained through WWF in the past.
