Environmental conservation CBOs demonstrate tangible results of the mariage of protecting homeland and income generation. The annual CBOs festival titled “CBO – Development-2013” was again a platform for local communities to demonstrate their achievements and share lessons learned. The event overlapped with 4th annual Conference of Onon River Basin Women in October 11-13, 2013 in Batshireet soum of Khentii aimag. Over 170 locals attended from all 7 soums underlying the Onon River Basin. Participants selected and awarded the best CBO and best product as they did in the previous years. The contest “Ladies” and fashion show with traditional dresses were amongst the most attracting side events. For the last four years in a row, those major event were financially supported by JFPR/ADB-funded project. Though the project has come to its end in March 2013, the locals have taken over the ideas and continue celebrating their success at their own costs. Both events have become long-awaited occasion for CBOs and river basin women. “It shows the sustainability of the project activities. It also demonstrates that CBOs and Women’s association is successfully continuing their activities towards nature conservation as they are eager to show their achievement. We greatly appreciate the efforts of WWF-Mongolia” stated the organizers of the festival. Participants have discussed on joint activities to hold in 2014 and decided to convene the festival in Bayan-Adraga soum next year.
