A WARM welcome to Joseph Kata who has been appointed the new Country Manager for WWF in Papua New Guinea.

The former Operations Director for World Vision PNG takes over at an challenging but exciting time for WWF’s operation in a country which contains around 7 per cent of the world’s biodiversity in less than half a per cent of its land mass.

After a period of restructuring and relocation from Port Moresby to Madang, the WWF-PNG team is now focused on fundraising to expand its programmes and on strengthening its influence at a national and provincial level, particularly on land-use policy in a nation where development is increasingly being driven by revenue from oil and liquified natural gas exploitation.

Joseph, or ‘Joe’ was born in Mt Hagen in the highlands of PNG. He was, until recently, General Manager of the Western Highlands Development Corporation and has also been a community leader of the Ulga Tribe and led conflict resolution and peace processes in the Nebliyer District.
