Yesterday, foresters in Gelephu rescued a reticulated python. The female python was caught by people from nearby forest in the airport area. It has suffered several injuries on the body for which it will be treated before it is released in the wild. The python is 14 feet long and weighs about 35 to 40 kilograms.

Similarly, last week foresters in Sarpang rescued a Common Leopard that was caught in a trap set by the villagers of Dechhenpelri village in Sarpang. Forestry officials from Thimphu and Gelegphu rescued the animal and it was tranquilized before removing from the trap. Farmers of the village had set the trap in paddy fields to prevent deer and wild boars from damaging their crop.
