Fifth Time Earth Hour in Armenia

Earth Hour 2013 initiated by WWF was held on March 23 in more than 150 countries. This time more than 7,000 cities, towns and municipalities united for one hour and switch off their lights to show that they care about our living planet. Citizens, businesses and public authorities across 25 time zones turned off their lights for one hour at 8.30pm in support for decisive action on climate change.

WWF Armenia together with the Ministry of Nature Protection, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Foundation, Yerevan and Vanadzor Municipalities, The Convention of Climate Change, UNDP/GEF, HSBC Armenia, Best Western Congress Hotel, the Armenian public, business and ordinary citizens participated in “Earth Hour 2013” global initiative by turning power down locally.

For one hour the street lights as well as the Opera House, Republic Square, and Statues lights were switched off in Yerevan. HSBC Bank Armenia switched off the lights at all its local branches and offices in support to this huge, global and symbolic action. Best Western Congress Hotel switched off the outside lights of the hotel for one hour.

Prior to the hour a press conference was organized by WWF Armenia with the representative of above mentioned organizations to inform the public of the upcoming Earth Hour and opportunity to make their own commitment.
