Alvaro de Souza



Alvaro de Souza is currently the Director of AdS – Gestão, Consultoria & Investimentos Ltda. He is also Board Chairman of GOL Airlines, member of the Board of WWF-Brazil, Board Member of FUNBIO (National Biodiversity Fund), Board Member of Unidas Fleet Management, Board Member of Triangulo Bank S/A (TRIBANCO) and Member of the Audit Committee of AMBEV.

Career Snapshot

He developed his career in the banking business with different companies of Citigroup in Brazil. He ascended from Branch Manager to General Manager of the investment bank Crefisul and CEO of Citibank/Brazil.

In the United States, he was head of the Cross Border Finance Division, CEO of the Global Private Bank, CEO of Retail Banking and Bankcards and head of the Latin America Consumer Banking Group.

During this time he also served as Board Chairman of Citibank Switzerland, Board Chairman of Crefisul and Board Chairman of Credicard, besides serving on the Board of Citibank Equity Investments in Argentina.

Outside Citigroup, Alvaro was the President of ABC-Roma Bank and Board Member of several Brazilian companies like Celbras, Ultraquimica and SPCI Computers.

He also served as Board Member of MasterCard International, is a former President of the American Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo, and was Senior Advisor for Latin America of Citibank until his retirement in September 2003.

Formal Education

Alvaro has BA degrees from the Catholic University of São Paulo in Business Administration and Economics, and attended several management courses at American schools such as the University of Pittsburgh and the Wharton Business School.

Alvaro, who was born in Portugal and is married to Suely Saad de Souza has a daughter, Adele de Souza, and a son, João Fernando de Souza.

Mr de Souza’s second term of office expires in December 2017.
