WWF launched a new strategy that harnesses the strengths of the WWF network in a shared vision, focussing on six major goals - water, wildlife, the ocean, climate and energy, forests, and food – and three key drivers of environmental problems – markets, finance and governance.

In support of this strategy WWF undertook a redesign of its international secretariat that will further unite WWF offices and its near 6,400 staff around the world. This will help WWF to build stronger partnerships across the world with government, business, civil society and individuals. Together, we will deliver on WWF’s ambitious goals.
We are recruiting the role of Specialist, Research and Database for our International Secretariat to help us achieve our new ambitious goals, and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.

The Role:
The Specialist, Research and Database will work with and assist the Fundraising Team to increase and maintain resources from major donors and foundations for WWF programs. This will be done through research on donors and donor trends, information management and supporting
donor cultivation and solicitation.

Main responsibilities:
The person in this role will work closely with the Head Fundraising Operations & Business Development and other managers in the team in the planning and implementation of all major gift fundraising activities and the legacy programme including:

Information and database Management:
  • Train new and current team members on proper database usage. Ensure consistent policies are applied. Maintain and update the database policies and procedures
  • Oversee donor-related data entry and accurate maintenance of donor records in Raiser’s Edge database
  • Perform database management and administration by ensuring integrity, consistency and quality/reportability of data
  • Manage relationship with software supplier regarding contract, upgrades and additional products
  • Create and provide tracking of donor portfolios of fundraisers and prospect / donor contacts
  • Recommend changes in database set up or in distribution lists to enable more efficient portfolio management and better targeted marketing activities
  • With the Fundraising team, support the planning and promotion of donor/prospect targeted marketing activities (e.g. speeches, lunches, events, trips, mailings), particularly responsible for creation of distribution lists from the database for targeting audiences
  • Prepare and communicate to the team appropriate donor and prospect information ahead of cultivation events. Collect and consolidate feedback from events and ensure the information is captured in the database
  • Provide in-depth quantitative analysis, based on data to relevant managers
  • Actively liaise with other relevant WWF teams and offices to facilitate cross-border fundraising efforts by collecting decentralised information on prospects and donors
  • Lead preparation to implementation, and implementation of GDPR principles for the Fundraising team
 Research & Donor Trends:
  • Monitor donor trends and preferences to identify new funding opportunities
  • Research, analyse and prepare donor profiles
  • Track news on active prospects and donors and create ad-hoc briefs
  • Create meeting briefs for fundraising staff, senior management and steering committee for meeting and events
  • Provide in-depth strategic research on agreed subjects for the team and senior management
  • Acquiring and maintaining relevant prospect research resources
  • Manage relationships with information providing suppliers like WealthX, sometimes representing WWF at strategic clients meetings 
Donor Cultivation & Solicitation:
  • Identify and seek out new fundraising opportunities: a pro-active approach to identify new prospect names from generic research and proposed matches between prospects’ interests and the WWF strategic programmatic priorities
  • Strategic analysis and prioritization of prospect pools
Legacy prospect management:
  • Develop a legacy engagement strategy and implementation plan
  • Identify candidates for active legacy communication
  • Support the development of communication materials about legacies
  • Provide support and training to network offices in prospect research, prospect development and database management

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum undergraduate university degree, preferably in the field of business, marketing, sociology
  • Minimum five years' experience in the field of fundraising, including minimum two years' experience in the field of major gift fundraising
  • Comprehensive knowledge of major gift fundraising methodology including prospect research, proposal preparation and the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors
  • Experience in wealth research and using (online) wealth estimation tools (access to share price and ownership structures, valuation tools for real estate, access to official financial report etc)
  • Experience in database management or CRM – experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills
  • Eye for detail and accuracy
  • Ability to understand business needs
  • Understanding of structured query language (SQL) a plus
  • Fluency in English required and efficiency in other major European languages desired (preferably French and German)
  • Strong (online) research and analytical skills
  • Team player and supportive
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in email, internet, word-processing, database and spreadsheet maintainance, and PowerPoint
