Protected places
Protected Areas account for more than 14% of the Ecoregion
- natural conservation
- constituting models for environmental protection
- serving as a gene bank for forest flora and fauna and as a site for research
- protecting historical vestiges, cultural and scenic places
- providing services for tourism.
In Lao P.D.R. and Cambodia, nearly all of the protected areas are called National Biodiversity Conservation Areas (NBCA) and Wildlife Sanctuaries, respectively.
All together, there are nearly 70 protected areas in the Greater Annamites ecoregion, accounting for more than fourteen percent of its area.
