Sustain the conservation effort
To succeed in conserving and protecting the Lower Mekong Dry Forests Ecoregion, efforts must be socially, financially, and politically sustainable.
Financial sustainability is a challenge, and further assistance from international donors will be needed for a number of years. Alternative, longer-term financing mechanisms such as trust funds need to be developed. At the same time, Government financial support to its conservation ministries and departments needs to be increased.
To do this, additional sources of sustainable government revenue, such as personal and business income taxes, need to be developed, and this revenue needs to be expended efficiently and transparently.
