Illegal and unsustainable use of the Greater Mekong’s relatively abundant forests resources is rapidly depleting commercially and ecologically valuable species, and increasing the regions vulnerability to climate change.
In all of the remaining forest landscapes across the region, protected areas form the corner stone of forest habitat conservation and management approaches.
Within these landsapes WWF works to ensure countries have scientifically based and representative networks of well-managed protected areas, which are sustainably financed, ensure effective participation of local communities and provide social and economic benefits, and in addition, establish initiatives that support responsible forest management and trade.
