Green Office
Green Office criteria
The office must have a clear written environmental programme that gives particular attention to the special features of the office and its situation. Elements should be included in the programme are: reducing the consumption of natural resources and office materials; reducing the production of waste, sorting and reusing waste; raising environmental awareness of staff; green purchase; reducing impacts from transportation.
2. Continous development
The environmental programme should show how the Green Office EMS will be continously developed and improved in the future. The longer term delopment plans and measures should also be described into the environmental programme.
3. Recycling and sorting waste
An office should follow a proper regulations of sorting and recyling waste. Harzardous waste should be delivered into safe collection systems for treatment.
4. Energy efficiency and use of green electricity
An office must implement indicators that can measure and demonstrate the uptake of energy efficiency in the office. An office should ideally alsoe transfer either completely or gradually to the use of green electricity, for example, by installing solar panels or purchasing carbon positive electricity (such as hydro) or wind power.
5. The Green Office Coordinator
The office staff should elect a person to coordinate the implementation of the EMS. The Coordinator should also disseminate Green Office advice and information provided by WWF and additional information the the office itself provides.
6. Raising environmental awareness of staff
All staff in a Green Office should be aware of the Green Office goals, management system and the practices being encouraged and supported in the office. Staff should be instructed, trained, and guided so that they know practical measures that are being implemented.
7. Communications
Both internal and external communications should be based on non-paper channel such as email, intranet, internet.
8. Reporting and tracking progress
The office should report annually to WWF using the Green Office Questionnaire. On a more frequent basis, the office should communicate to office staff on progress against the goals.
Indicators information should be reported to WWF annually. The provision of this information is one input to the WWF Audit Progress that enables the WWF to check that an office is fulfilling the minimum criteria, is maintaining and updating the EMS and is implementing a process of continous development.
