Sustainable energy development – Vietnam’s energy future

Posted on 28 October 2013
On October 11 and 12, WWF-Vietnam, the Department of Industry and Trade (DOIT) and Women’s Union (WU) in Thua Thien Hue jointly organised an event to raise public awareness on energy efficiency, saving and renewable energy solutions, with the long-term aim of reducing energy use per capita and increasing the access to and use of clean and affordable energy in Thua Thien Hue province.

The event included an “Energy Saving Family Competition” and a “Sustainable Energy Technology Exhibition.” The event was the first of its kind in Thua Thien Hue, and between 700 to 750 participants and visitors from all over the province attended. The competition emphasised the impacts on and important role of women in energy use and making sustainable energy choices with economic, social, and environmental benefits combined. The exhibition displayed a broad range of sustainable energy technologies, including various improved cookstoves, biogas systems, solar heaters, and solar PV systems for household scale.

This joint sustainable energy awareness-raising event is a part of the Low Carbon Development (LCD) Project implemented by WWF-Vietnam in partnership with DOIT in Thue Thien Hue province. The content and lessons learned from the event will be used in future activities in the two project districts Nam Dong and Quang Dien of the LCD project running until the end of 2014.
