Forestry for Nepal’s Prosperity Presented at Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Dr. Krishna Chandra Paudel, Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation, presented Nepal’s vision for the future of forestry in Nepal and its importance to the country’s economic prosperity at an exclusive event at WWF-US on Wednesday, January 30.  

 

The event, co-hosted with the Embassy of Nepal, was attended by partners and officials including from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Forest Service. Welcome remarks were made by His Excellency Dr. Shankar Sharma, Ambassador of Nepal to the United States.

 

Dr. Paudel highlighted the government of Nepal’s recently endorsed strategy on forestry for prosperity that will create green jobs, promote economic growth, and ensure environmental sustainability.

 

He laid out a framework that stressed the importance of developing business models that integrate and promote tourism in key national parks and protected areas. The business models will also stimulate the sustainable production of forest products.

 

This new approach to forest management will be a fundamental pillar of economic growth in Nepal. The ongoing contribution of partners like WWF was acknowledged in order to achieve this ambitious vision.
