Over the past 15 years, Lida has become a common sight around the reefs of the Coral Triangle.
This native of Holland has lived and worked in Asia since 1992, starting with a PhD on small-scale coastal fisheries management in 1994 until taking the reigns of the Coral Triangle programme in 2007.
Lida is the engine of the Coral Triangle programme. On a day-to-day basis, she coordinates activities with the strategy, communications and policy teams to achieve the programme’s goals. A lot of this work involves nurturing partnerships with The Nature Conservancy and Conservation International.
What Lida finds the most challenging is raising the stakes for all relevant parties so that conservation of the Coral Triangle goes beyond “business as usual”. But the importance and beauty of the place--combined with the good intentions and willingness of partners to collaborate--makes it all worthwhile.
