WWF: Opening of the photo exhibition "Our rivers, our treasure!"
Irma Popovic Dujmović from WWF welcomed the guests and thanked all the supporters, rafting and kayak clubs and NGO's and emphasized: "This exhibition confirms the success of our campaign. We paddled on all the planned rivers and found them in a good shape. We will continue to fight for our rivers to preserve them in their natural state so they can stay safe for generations to come."
A perennial WWF Adria campaign "Our rivers, our treasure!" constantly alerts of the biggest threats to Croatian rivers. After paddling on Korana and Mrežnica rivers last year, this year more than 200 kayakers paddled on six rivers: Sava, Drava, Kupa, Zrmanja, Korana and Mrežnica for seven days and walked through the endangered canyon of Krupa river, a part of the Velebit Nature Park.
WWF Adria also launced the petition for the salvation of Krupa river as a part of the "Our Rivers, Our Treasure!" campaign. The petition aims to preserve this only seven kilometers long river in its current natural state and it's directed towards the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy and Zadar county to make a joint decision, within their competencies, by which the canyon of the Krupa river will be excluded from all forms of use for energy purposes!. The petition is active until July 22 at change.org.
The exhibition was opened on "Amazon of Europe Day" to highlight the natural values of the future UNESCO biosphere reserve stretching across Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia.
"Croatian Rivers Tour" photo exhibition is planning to visit the cities of Varaždin, Karlovac and Zadar to further promote national campaign "Our Rivers, Our Treasure!".
