Permafrost throughout the Arctic is warming and even thawing causing damage to homes, schools, bridges and highways. Some northern communities have already had to relocate to safer, more stable grounds.

But damage to infrastructure is just one of the results. One new study estimates emissions from thawing permafrost will cost in the trillions of dollars in lost agriculture, ecosystems and health impacts by the end of this century.
