Sustainable seafood: Consumer guides

WWF, together with the Seafood Choices Alliance, North Sea Foundation and the Marine Conservation Society, developed a methodology to assess the sustainability of seafood species. Based on this, we've created guides that tell you which seafood to enjoy and which seafood to avoid.

Get to know your seafood

Once considered inexhaustible, our oceans are in a state of global collapse.

More than 70% of the world’s commercial marine fish stocks are either fully exploited or overfished.

Yet the solutions are in our hands, because the seafood you choose can determine whether tomorrow’s generations will continue to enjoy the oceans’ riches.

Other seafood guides

  • Always look out for seafood with the distinctive blue MSC label. This gives you a simple way to identify - and purchase - fish from well-managed sources.
