Working with business
Solutions to the climate challenge are already available. To have a chance of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the vast majority of fossil fuels—the biggest driver of climate change—need to be left in the ground. At the same time, we must address the climate impacts already unfolding.
Why it matters
The renewable energy sector is growing rapidly and competing with fossil fuels. This helps to shield the world from the worst climate risks while improving health, boosting our economies and creating jobs.
WWF recognises that business and industry have a key role in implementing technologies and innovations to address climate change. That’s why we work with businesses around the world to build a future where people and nature thrive.
What WWF is doing
We work with global companies that take climate change seriously and are prepared to cut their carbon emissions like never before.
Our business programmes include:
Climate Savers: Climate Savers is WWF’s flagship climate leadership programme that seeks to transform businesses into leaders of the low-carbon economy. The programme is intended to inspire a change in thinking in the business sector by showcasing best-practice corporate leadership in climate change action. Participating companies are better placed to avoid carbon-related risks and seize opportunities to propel their long-term business strategies.
Science Based Targets: Science Based Targets is a joint initiative between CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and WWF to increase corporate ambition for climate action. The programme assists companies to set targets consistent with the level of decarbonisation required to keep global warming under 2°C.
Climate Solver: As WWF’s innovation programme, Climate Solver aims to highlight innovative technologies that provide immediate and practical solutions to climate change. The Climate Solver Awards honour climate-smart entrepreneurs and businesses from South Africa, China, India and the Nordic countries.
Every WWF office reports on their intent, objectives and impacts for all companies that it has a relationship with. For more information about these partnerships, refer to the national office websites.
