Soy Scorecards

Do you really know what’s behind the meat, eggs and cheese you eat?
Every year millions of tonnes of soybeans are used to feed animals reared for meat and dairy products. On average, European consumers eat 61kg of soy per year, most of it in the form of animal products like chicken, pork, beef and farmed fish as well as eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt.

Much soy is grown in South America, where too often it comes at the expense of amazing natural ecosystems such as the Amazon, Cerrado and Chaco - home to spectacular wildlife like jaguars, giant anteaters and maned wolves.

The Soy Scorecards assess European companies that use soy in animal feed or animal products to see where they stand on responsible soy.

WWF assessed 133 companies in 9 European countries on their use of responsible soy.
Criteria measured included transparency on total soy use, use of responsibly produced soy and efforts to remove deforestation from soy supply chains.

The first in a series, the WWF Soy report Card 2014 shows that responsible soy is possible and some front-running companies are leading the way.
The WWF Soy Report Card 2014 assessed 88 European companies in 5 countries on the soy they use for animal feed and animal products. The scored companies include retailers, food service companies, consumer goods manufacturers and dairy, meat, egg and feed companies.

WWF intends to enlarge the scope to encompass more countries, companies and product lines in future editions.
