On the border of Myanmar and Thailand

This landscape straddles the Tannantharyi (Tennasserim) range on the Thai-Myanmar border.

On the Thai side, the Western Forest Complex includes 19 protected areas. The region supports a broad range of biodiversity and a high density of tigers. It is also an important watershed area for 6 of Thailand's major river basins.

Little is known about biodiversity and forest conditions in the Myanmar part of the landscape.

Goals

    • By 2012, baseline for tiger population established in key sites in Myanmar (after which national tiger and habitat goals will be established)
    • By 2020, tiger population increased by 50% across 6 core sites in Thailand, while maintaining current (baseline) forest cover and increasing quality (prey) throughout the landscape.
