::: Remarks :::

Marina was accidentally captured by a pelagic (open sea) longliner fishing boat on the 15th June 2005.

Onboard however, was Philip Miller, one of the Karumbe team members. Karumbe is the Uruguayan Turtle Protection organisation.

Philip took this opportunity to tag the leatherback, who he named "Marina". Philip will remain on the longliner for the next 2-3 months both as an observer, and should any more leatherbacks be incidentally captured, to tag them as well.

The temperature of the water in which she was found was 23.7° C.

April 2006: Bad News
For unknown reasons, it seems like Marina´s transmitter has come off and sank in the ocean. This could be the cause for which the quality of the recent data has been standard and unvarying. We must assume that the transmitter came off at the end of April 2006. Since Marina was captured in the open sea, it’s going to be hard to find her again, but hopefully we will... nesting in the beaches nearby.
