Objectives: Northern Borneo
The project envisions that a true landscape approach to elephant/rhino conservation can be achieved through the establishment of partnerships with relevant government agencies, Forest Management Unit licencees, land developers and private land owners.
Since the Forest Management Unit system has already established a landscape approach to forestry, AREAS can work within that landscape by concentrating on management issues such as:
- conflict avoidance and mitigation
- law enforcement including rhino protection
- design and scheduling of cutting cycles, coupe (cutting) areas, rotation and related aspects of forest management
