The European Alpine Programme: Joint Action for Nature in the European Alps

Posted on 07 May 2012

The Alps are one of the most heavily exploited mountain ecosystems in the world. Yet they represent one of the richest biodiversity hotspots in Europe. To save this important source of biodiversity, transboundary and far sighted solutions are needed. This is what the WWF European Alpine Programme (EALP) is trying to provide.

The WWF EALP streamlines and coordinates the Alpine conservation work of four WWF national organisations in Austria, France, Italy, and Switzerland. To protect Alpine nature in its entirety, the EALP is taking an 'ecoregional' approach to conservation, applying broad-scale and far-sighted solutions that transcend national borders. This brochure describes WWF's successful conservation work across the Alpine ecoregion.
