WWF recommendations: 2030 framework for climate & energy - The European Council must call for a more effective system

Posted on 20 February 2014  |
The European Commission has put forward a 2030 framework for climate and energy policies that is both technically and politically flawed. It fails to recognise recent science on the urgent need to tackle climate change:
  • It misses the huge opportunity of modernising Europe’s energy systems
  • It effectively caps the potential of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  • It underestimates national support for a clean energy agenda leading to true climate protection.
WWF urges the European Council to call for a more effective system.
Based on recent research by ECOFYS for WWF, by 2030, the EU could be generating more than 40% of its energy from renewable sources
