Bear 2183 on the Polar Bear Tracker is spotted with cubs

A bear we are tracking on the WWF Polar Bear Tracker was recently spotted again in northern Svalbard and we are happy to report that both her cubs are still with her.

Jon Aars,  wildlife researcher with the Norwegian Polar Institute, flew over the bear and her cubs while conducting a walrus survey in Svalbard.

The bear, known as Bear 2183 on the Polar Bear Tracker, was seen climbing over rocky terrain with her male and female cubs.

This is good news, as 20 to 40 percent (depending on the region) of polar bear cubs do not survive their first year.
