On April 18, “Farm and Veterinary Service Center” was opened in Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor by WWF-Armenia and CARD Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia. Financial support was provided by the German Government within the framework of “Promotion of Eco-Corridors in the Southern Caucasus” project in Armenia.

This center will significantly contribute to the development of the animal husbandry in the region. The center is equipped with the modern veterinary equipment and instruments. It will cooperate with the adjacent communities to provide consultancy on improving livestock grazing. This will help to reduce the pressure on the natural resources.

The center also has an educational function. It will organize trainings and workshops by foreign experts for the communities. The center is a regional institution. It will support 44 adjacent communities including about 10 000 households.

Many guests were present at the opening of the center among which the minister of Nature Protection of Armenia Mr. Artsvik Minasyan, head of Vayots Dzor region Mr. Harutyun Sargsyan, deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy Mrs. Nadia Lichtenberger.

On the same day the signing ceremony of "Environmental Agreement" took place between WWF-Armenia, ''Gnishik" Intercommunal Environmental Foundation and Khachik community. During the ceremony the community received agricultural machinery and about 4000 fruit tree seedlings to create alternative livelihood opportunities for households.

"Environmental Agreement" is important because it aims to contribute to the sustainable development of local communities and biodiversity conservation. This is an essential component in the creation of eco-corridors in the south of the country. The agreement has already provided € 70 000 for the purchase of agricultural equipment for Khachik community. This will increase the efficiency of agricultural lands and cultivated lands, which will contribute to the well-being of households and Khachik community development.
