World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Specialist to work in the Media & External Affairs department. This person will work as part of a cross-functional team to implement innovative public relations strategies to advance WWF’s priority conservation goals, enhance the WWF brand, increase understanding and support for conservation broadly, and elevate the profile of key WWF experts. This position will include an emphasis on corporate engagement and sustainability issues.

I.Major Duties & Responsibilities
1.Carries out comprehensive and proactive public relations strategies in support of priority initiatives to key U.S. audiences through traditional and digital public relations tactics.

 

2.Initiates and maintains ongoing positive relations with media.

 

3.Develops and distributes public relations content, including feature pitches, press releases, rapid response statements, blog posts, infographics, video, photos, and other content.

 

4.Prepares and staffs WWF spokespersons for media interactions and other external public relations activities, supporting events, briefings and interviews.

 

5.Represents WWF-US at appropriate national and international meetings where public engagement and strategic communications is a priority. May travel to field program areas, other WWF offices, corporate headquarters and other locations both domestically and internationally.

 

6.Tracks progress and provides regular evaluations and reports on media projects.

 

7.Assists with planning and preparation of any other media projects as assigned.

 

II. Working Relationships
1.Internal: Interacts daily with WWF Media & External Affairs team, as well as other WWF teams in Marketing and Communications, Operations and across WWF’s priority programs.
2.External: Works with traditional and digital media at the regional, national and international level, as well as media personnel from non-governmental and conservation/environmental organizations. Works with media and program staff at WWF-International and other WWF National and Program Offices.

 

III.Supervisory Responsibility
No direct supervisory responsibility at this time.

 

IV.Minimum Requirements
1.Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree is required as is knowledge of working with traditional and digital media. Knowledge of policy, business and conservation issues is essential. At least 5 years professional experience in public relations or journalism is required.

 

2.Skills and Abilities
•Proven communications skills are a must, especially the ability to write fast, accurate, and concise copy.
•Interest in, and understanding of, corporate sustainability issues.
•Ability to absorb and process information quickly.
•Dedicated work ethic and the ability to implement public relations strategies on tight deadline. Must be fast, flexible, and responsive whenever the need arises.
•Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects; also must be flexible and able to be a cooperative team player.
•Successfully sell ideas within the organization and work cooperatively with people from other organizations and cultures; Strong interpersonal communication skills, especially relationship management skills and the ability to work diplomatically as part of a high-level, multi¬dimensional, international team.
•Strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to work independently.
•Experience and/or willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
