Raisioagro, a Finnish agri-trader and manufacturer of feed, is the latest European feed company to purchase 10,000 responsible soy credits from a Brazilian farmer -- the equivalent to 10,000 tonnes of certified soy. The company, a member of the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS), is the first Finnish company to have taken this step.

This year, the RTRS expects 2 million tonnes of soy to be certified, reaching 5 million tonnes by 2015. Agustin Mascotena, RTRS Executive Director, explains that “we still have a long way [for RTRS] to reach a global mainstream status, but we feel we are on the right track. From this year’s annual conference (May 28th and 29th in Beijing, China), we expect to engage with important Asian countries to work together on the global trade of soy; especially with China, which is responsible for more than 50% of soy purchases.”
