Call for applications for the "WEEK OF THE SEA" in Tunisia

For the last four years a course in biology and marine environment, "The  Week of the Sea", is organized in collaboration between Protection Agency and Coastal Management (APAL), WWF Mediterranean Tunis Office, Research Unit Ecosystem & Aquatic Resources of the National Agronomic Institute of Tunisia (INAT) and the Centre for Studies and Training Okianos in Tabarka.

This internship brings together undergraduate science students (Fisheries, Biology, Environment), for a practical training on prospecting, sampling and interpretation of marine and coastal ecosystems with a biodiversity and habitats protection approach..

The internship is organized in a closed camp with permanent supervision provided by university teachers and researchers specialized in the subjects covered:.
  • Prospecting and sampling at sea
  • Laboratory work
  • Taxonomy
  • Data processing and mapping
  • Thematic conferences
Building on the success of the last four sessions of the Tunisian "Sea Week", the organizing committee opted this year for Mediterranean reach, so that the Tunisian experience can benefit other riparian countries. Students from Algeria, Croatia, France, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Turkey and Tunisia of course, are expected to attend.

This internship is organized in collaboration with APAL, WWF, and INAT Okianos and with the participation of the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected Areas (RAC / SPA) and the Higher Institute of Fishing and Aquaculture Bizerte (ISPA).
  • Period of internship: from 1 to 7 July 2012
  • Training Location: Sidi Mechreg / Tabarka (North West of Tunisia).
  • Selection will be based on motivation
  • Selected students will be fully supported during their stay. The organizing committee will not cover the cost of tickets for travels to Tunisia.
  • Selected students will need to organize their own individual insurance and travel insurance.
