GABON - Protection of 600,000 hectare Minkebe rainforest

Six-hundred thousand (600,000) hectares of undisturbed rainforest were classified for special protection. This is a vital link in a planned tri-national conservation area of barely-disturbed lowland forests linking Cameroon, Congo, and Gabon. These forests hold the largest surviving population of forest elephant plus large numbers of gorilla, chimpanzee, leopard, forest buffalo and giant pangolin.
